Introduction

After having read n-number of blogs by friends and acquaintances--and lots of thoughts how to write and what to write i have finally decided to write on whatever comes to mind-- which is why i decided to call my blog a "medley of musings".

Ironically -- I make a living out of writing...so you could call me a confused scribe lost in the world of bulls and bears , bonds and yields...trying to get my creative juices flow. "From the city of joy -- to the city of dreams" is what i could call my life so far. I hail from the land of Tagore and Bose and like most of my kinsmen, swear by literature. In love with the written word from as early as I can remember and I have been lucky that our friend above-- has landed me quite fairly and squarely among hordes of scribes where I fought to make my place under the sun.

I came to the the city of dreams as a girl...and here I am --a woman --four years down the line, realising some dreams...and dreaming some more...sometimes with my eyes closed and sometimes with my eyes wide open.

Well That is Bombay for you....if you are a dream merchant...there's no stopping you in Bombay unless of course you are blown to bits in a packed local train and the next day everybody salutes the spirit of Mumbai!

But we have very short-lived memories here, so life goes on...till another rude shock takes the lives of a few more innocents and then everybody says " We had done everything possible!!" But that does not deter our much talked about spirit, we do not pack our bags and leave for our spacious homes back in our cities of origin...we prefer to live on the edge in matchboxes in the city of dreams...hoping and dreaming...dreaming and hoping........

And life goes on.............

A very suitable blog you have written gargi at this time when after every 2 months bombay is in the news.As far as I remember it all started with the Hindu-muslim riot in 1993 and then onwards one after the other bombay never stopped burning, but yes inspite of burning hundreds of lives every day the spirit of bombay did not die and it is not just the educated cultural people of the society who are living on the edge in matchboxes in the city of dreams as stated by you,but also the slum dewellers who make there living in the pavement of the road.Inspite of there 7 members innocent death they are not thinking of packing there bags and moving to a safer place. This really proves life does go on.........

Life goes on....it really does and that is the best thing in life.
But I disagree that memories are short-lived. They are not. Or else why would India still have to nurse the bruises of the partition.A class of people like to believe that memories are short-lived and it is more out of convenience that people admire the so-called spirit rather than out of admiration.
Also, it is the basic nature of human-kind to stand up to the hordes of challenges that life puts forth. I have come to believe, space is in the mind and you can live in as spacious a place as you want to - metaphorically ofcourse and thats not bad either!
Living on the edge is all life is about, dear. You can stop living on the edge only if you stop dreaming. Or else wherever you are, life would always be on the edge as dreams die only after they are born and it hurts to see your dreams die.
****Having replied to the thoughts, I have some thing more to say. ********
I could not stop noticing the style. Sometimes very powerful, yet at times a bit vulnerable. Probably, a better arrangement of thoughts are required.***********
But you know best, you are the one who makes a living out of writing, I just deal with the bulls, bears, bonds and yields.......
